Vivian L. Purvis' Obituary
Vivian L. Purvis, 103, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Lutheran Life Villages, Fort Wayne. Born in New Carlisle, she was the daughter of the late Virgil and Ada (Carr) Rodgers. She married Harry Purvis on June 23, 1940, who preceded her in death in November 2001. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, having been confirmed on June 1, 1941, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven. Vivian was an administrative assistant in East Allen County Schools for 34 years, retiring in 1992. She had a strong commitment to volunteerism, having volunteered many hours at Fort Wayne State School, Lutheran Life Villages (Lutheran Home), and Lutheran Hospital. She was presented many honors, including Allen County Volunteer of the Year, Fifteen Who Care, the Jefferson Award, the Maxine Rippe Award, the ISAHS Award, the Lutheran Social Services Award, and the Euanna Holloway Award at Lutheran Hospital. In 2018 Lutheran Life Villages created the "Vivian Purvis Impact Award" to give annually to someone who upholds the mission of Lutheran Life Villages. Vivian was the first recipient. In 2020 WANE 15 and Fort Wayne Toyota Dealers recognized her as a Remarkable Women finalist.
She is survived by her son, Gregory (Peggy) Purvis of Heritage Lake; grandchildren, Lorraine Cable of Greenfield and Corrine (Graham) Youngs of Danville; and great granddaughters, Vivian, Violet, and Eloise Youngs. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Cable; and siblings, Martha Holaday, Adah Weaver, Carr Rodgers, and Mary Horvath.
Funeral service is 1 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2023, at Lutheran Life Villages Chapel, 6701 S. Anthony Blvd, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Visitation is also 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Entombment in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
