Vera L. Melcher's Obituary
Vera L. (Hormann) Melcher, 98, fell asleep with Jesus on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Village of Heritage, Monroeville. Born in New Haven, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Emilie (Hockemeyer) Hormann. She was a loving farmer's wife and homemaker who enjoyed 60 years with her husband Gerold, who preceded her in death in 1995. She was the oldest member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven.
She is survived by her children, Eugene (Alberta) Melcher of Fort Wayne, Janice (Lester) Zelt of Hoagland, Roger (Donnalyn) Melcher and Ray (Jane) Melcher both of New Haven; sisters-in-law, Marie Melcher and Geraldine Strasser; nine grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Gerold in 1995; siblings, Melinda Scheumann, Selma Koenemann Melcher, Hilda Meyers, Willis and Wallace Hormann, and Gloria Meyer.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Paul Shoemaker officiating. Calling is also 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials are to Emanuel Lutheran Church, Worship for Shut-ins, or Village of Heritage Activity Fund.
