Thomas W. Koch's Obituary
Thomas W. Koch, 81, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness, FL. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Wilbur and Janet Koch. The 1952 graduate of Harlan High School was a member of Bippus Calvary United Methodist. The US Army veteran was a member of American Legion Post 409, Leo. He retired in 1994 as an electrician with Local 305 IBEW after 40 years of service. Tom taught electrical courses in the army and also to IBEW apprentices. He was a former trustee for Maysville Water and Sewer, the honorary Citizen of the Year during the 1998 Harlan Days Festival, a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Hicksville, Ohio, and past member of the Harlan Lions Club. He pitched fast pitch softball for 30 years, was an avid fisherman, and in his later years wintered in Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Shirley (formerly Carroll) Koch; children, Steven (Pam) Koch of Leo, Scott (Susan) Koch of Waterloo, and Marlene (Steve) Smith of Fort Wayne; step-sons, Roger (Linda) Carroll, Joe (Tina) Carroll, and Todd Carroll all of Huntington; brother Rudy (Kathy) Koch of New Haven; seven grandchildren; six step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and seven step great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Edward Koch and Mary Jo Horn.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2015 at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with calling one hour prior. Pastor Barry Faucett officiating. Calling is also 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial in Scipio Cemetery, Harlan with military honors. Preferred memorials are to Bippus Calvary United Methodist or Harlan Christian Youth Center.
