Steven P. Bennett's Obituary
Dr. Steven P. Bennett, 80, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Lincolnshire Place, Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Rosemary (Miller) Bennett. He was a 1963 graduate of Bishop Luers High School, a 1967 graduate of Indiana Tech with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and went on to receive his doctorate in optometry from Indiana University in 1976. He owned Dupont Vision Center, Decatur Vision Center, and previously had an office in New Haven. A lover of nature and the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing in the Everglades, gardening, and watching the sunrise and sunsets over Lake George. He also enjoyed cheering on IU Basketball.
He is survived by his sons, Eric Theron (Amber) Bennett, Lance (Emili) Bennett, and Matthew Bennett; sister, Michele Locke; granddaughter, Miriam Bennett; step-grandchildren, Colen, Kirsten, and Cameron Rigby; and his former wife and lifelong friend, Kathleen Bennett. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Michael Bennett and Siera Brocamonte.
Memorial service is 11 am Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. New Haven with visitation two hours prior (9 to 11 am).
