Stanley Walker Augenstein's Obituary
Stanley Walker Augenstein, 63, passed away on Friday, September 28th at home surrounded by his family, listening to the Beatles, wrapped in a Cubs blanket. He was born in Fort Wayne, IN to the late Dale and Edna (Disler) Augenstein. Stan was a licensed HVAC maintenance technician for 20 years, most recently at Park Center. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. After graduating from New Haven High School, Stan pursued his dream to play music. He was in several bands over the years, the most known being Overlynd Express, and the most recent being The Broadway Dogs. His music took him across the country including time spent recording in Nashville, opening concerts for various different bands, and even living in Colorado Springs for a short time. He was a devoted husband, father, uncle, friend and grandfather who loved his grandsons with all his heart. As an avid lover of baseball, he spent many years in little league and playing church softball, as well as yelling at the TV during Cubs games. He also enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, camping, playing cards, going to concerts and discussing how the Beatles were the greatest band in history.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lani (Borer) Augenstein; children, Andrew (Fay) Augenstein of Orlando, FL, Abbey (Nate) Shriner of Huntertown, IN; Grandchildren Grant and Jacob Augenstein of Orlando, FL, Jackson and Theodore Shriner of Huntertown, IN; sister Jean (Hal) Howard of Charleston, SC; brothers Ron (Jan) Augenstein of Fort Myers, FL, Keith Augenstein of Fort Wayne, IN; and many friends and family who loved him dearly. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Bob Augenstein of Springfield, OH, and Steve Augenstein of Flower Mound, TX.
Funeral service is at 11am on Friday, October 5th, 2018 at Concordia Lutheran Church, 4245 Lake Ave, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior, and Pastor Doug Croucher officiating. Visitation is also 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 4th, 2018 at Harper’s Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are to Campus Crusade for Christ, Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana, and Visiting Nurse Hospice.
