Rex Lepper
Margaret and Sue Lynn, my sincerest condolences to you in your loss of Bob. He always wanted to know “what’s going on in New Haven”—and he knew much more than I did. Seeing “The Price is Right” will bring back memories of him. I first met and saw twin brother Bill many times in the mid 1960’s when he was with our then neighbor, Ned Bearman. So years later 1970-71 I walked into the Trion Tavern and noticed “Bill” with friends, sitting on a bar stool. From behind I grabbed his shoulders and pulled him backwards, letting him fall into my arms. Looking down at who I then realized was not Bill, with his hugely wide eyes, I said “You’re not Bill Mattingly. He said “No, I’m his brother”. I apologized and bought him a beer. He said the next time he didn’t need that type of greeting—just a beer would do. Remembering Bob fondly, Rex Lepper
