Robert "Bob" Ames' Obituary
Robert Ames, 82, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Majestic Care, New Haven. He was born in Hicksville, OH to the late Theodore and Mabel (Keating) Ames. Bob was a computer programmer with International Harvester where he retired in 1988 after 26 years. He was also a computer programmer for United Technologies and other companies. He was a member of the New Haven United Methodist Church, New Haven. Bob gave much of his time to civic and charitable associations like the Masonic Lodge, The Lions Club, The Jobs Daughters International,Royal Order of Scotland, and The Shriner’s. He was a New Haven City Councilman and was involved with the planning commission and the board of zoning to name a few. Bob helped oversee the new city building and utilities buildings in New Haven as well. He enjoyed Fly fishing, sailing, model airplanes and he was a pilot.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joy (Hardy) Ames; children, Kevin (Sue) Ames of Indianapolis, Tim (Sharon) Ames of Fort Wayne, and Tammy (Mark) Downing of Grabill; Aunt, Katherine Bixler of Fort Wayne; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Chad Ames; brother, Phil Ames.
Funeral service is 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2018 at Harper’s Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Chuck Fenwick officiating. Visitation is also 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Masonic service 7:00 pm. Burial in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven. Preferred memorials are to the Alzheimer’s Foundation and the Shepherd’s House, Fort Wayne.
