My sister Pat, being the oldest of our family of eleven, had the best characteristics of being the first born. She was a role model, not because our mom said to set a good example, but on account of her heart that was deeply empathetic. She was mature and responsible, never bossy. Her diplomacy and adaptability made her a great employee, wife and mother. She was never dramatic, she chose to live her life quietly, yet was always so enthusiastic for others accomplishments and adventures. I admired that about her most, she let others shine and never wanted the spot light for herself. That she raised five children faithfully and supported a husband to the end, is a testament to her love and commitment, first to herself and then to God whom she trusted her life with. I’m thankful that living in another state, didn’t stop us from sharing life together. Phone calls, visits, weddings and funerals all presented occasions to catch-up and I’m glad as a family we took advantage of all of those times.
Something we laugh about now happened when Pat along with sisters Judy, Elaine and I, went to Germany on vacation. We put Pat in charge of taking photos since she was married to a photographer. We thought she was doing a great job, until she discovered she forgot to put film in the camera! When Pat first worked in the hospital as an x-ray technician, she told me I was one of her smallest patients, a newborn who needed x-rays. I know her tender touch comforted me then and always will.
Until we meet in our "eternal" home, I will carry her lovingly in my heart. I know all of you will too.
