Melvin T. Downs' Obituary
Melvin T. Downs, 74, of Woodburn died September 9, 2014 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born in Springfield, Ohio, he was the son of the late Robert and Candy Downs. He served his country in the US Air Force, and retired in 2006 from Materials Handling Equipment Corp after 39 years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and most of all he enjoyed his grandchildren. He was an avid Ohio State University football fan and University of Kentucky basketball fan.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Connie (Gerig); children, Michelle Downs of Westfield and Bradley (Kendra) Downs of Woodburn; brothers, James, David, Paul, Philip, and Mark Downs; sister, Ann Shepperd; and grandchildren, Alex and Emma Dieckmeyer, and Mason Downs. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Bobby Downs, and Helen Lee.
Funeral Service is 11 a.m. Monday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with calling one hour prior. Pastor Scott Christianson officiating. Calling is from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. Burial in Woodburn Mennonite Cemetery, Woodburn with military honors. Preferred memorials are to Cancer Service of Northeast Indiana.
