Marilyn Elaine Headford's Obituary
Marilyn Elaine Headford, 81, of Troy, OH, formerly of Fort Wayne, passed away suddenly Sunday, May 15, 2016, at home. Born in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Selma (Bohn) Stemmler. She was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, New Haven and most recently a member of First Lutheran Church, Troy, OH. She played organ for multiple churches and had a huge place in her heart for the St. Jude Children’s Home. She worked for both Fort Wayne Cardiology and Dayton Pain and Preventative Medicine as a medical transcriptionist, retiring in 2009. She loved playing cards and could often be found on a casino boat or on the Las Vegas strip.
She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Vaughn of Troy, OH, Susan (John) Stilwell of Crystal River, FL, and Carol (Randy) Prudden of Eaton, OH; sister, Catherine Chilcote of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and longtime companion, John Smekens of Troy, OH. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Darol Eldridge and Robert Headford; and sister, Martha Wamboldt.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1720 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with calling from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to service. Rev. David Williamson and Father Roger Vaughn officiating. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials are to the St. Jude Children’s Home or www.neversayneverfoundation.org. Arrangements by E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven.
