Jose "Joe" Luis Alvarez's Obituary
Jose “Joe” Luis Alvarez, 66, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017. Born in Raymondville, TX, he was the son of the late Encarnacion and Hilaria (Carreon) Alvarez. He was a member of Central Ministries, Fort Wayne. He was a police officer and detective during his 35 years with the Allen County Police Department and worked with the local Crime Stoppers.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janice (Zimmerman) Alvarez; children, Cassie Alvarez of New Haven, Benjamin Alvarez of Woodburn, and Abbey (Jared) Yagodinski of New Haven; grandchildren, Alexander and Henry Yagodinski; and siblings, Roberto (Patricia) Alvarez and David Alvarez both of Sumter, SC, Maria DeLeon, Sam (Marjorie) Alvarez, Bill (Mary) Alvarez, and Elsa (Ramon) Benavidez all of Van Wert, OH, Irma (Roderick) Hoffman of Daleville, Oscar (Gavy) Alvarez of Fort Wayne, Emma (Richard) Huff of Troy, OH, and Raul Alvarez of Greenville, SC. He was also preceded in death by his son, Brandon Alvarez in 2013; and siblings, Guillermo, Saul, and Juan Alvarez.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Monday at Central Ministries, 5801 Schwartz Rd., Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior to the service. Pastor Don Delagrange officiating. Calling is also 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in Yaggy Cemetery, Grabill. Preferred memorials are to Pioneer Bible Translators or Wycliffe Bible Translators.
