Janet Lenore Markley's Obituary
Janet Lenore Markley, 90, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Golden Years Homestead, Fort Wayne. Born on September 28, 1927 in Ridgeville, she was the daughter of the late C. Emery and Gail (Hillman) Smith. She was a 1945 graduate of Westfield High School and attended Ball State Teachers College, graduating in 1949. During her 29 years teaching career she was an elementary school teacher in Logansport and for East Allen County Schools, retiring in 1988. She was a member of New Haven United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Darwin; sons, Steve (Julie) Markley and Jeff Markley both of Fort Wayne, Todd (Tracy) Markley of Carmel, and grandchildren, Ellen (Preston) Patillo, Blake, Laura, Evan, Adam, and Carly Markley. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Willard and Stanley Smith; and sisters, Margaret Lawson, Elizabeth Armstrong, and Ruth Maxwell.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday at New Haven United Methodist Church, 630 Lincoln Hwy E., New Haven with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Chuck Fenwick officiating. Visitation is also 1 to 4 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Harper’s Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in IOOF Cemetery, New Haven. Preferred memorials to the church.
