Jane Louise Schuckel's Obituary
Jane Louise Schuckel, 76, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024, surrounded by family. Born in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Edna (Dean) Schuckel. She grew up in New Haven and graduated from New Haven High School in 1965.
She started her career at GE and later retired from ITT/Harris as an Associate Manufacturing Engineer, where she is still missed. Throughout her career, she earned awards for her inventive solutions and was known for being a software wiz. She managed engineering documentation and trained factory personnel how to safely handle military radios. In 2009, she earned an Associate Degree in Business Management from Indiana Institute of Technology, an accomplishment that meant a lot to her.
She had a fun-loving, playful spirit, loved a good pun, and could probably beat you at Scrabble. In her younger years, she loved spending time with family and friends on Crooked Lake, where she also water skied. She enjoyed cheering on the Homestead High School marching band as a Band Booster.
In her 50s, she made a solo trip to Australia to see a dear friend. Other big trips included Hawaii, the Caribbean, the Canadian Rockies, and her last trip-Florida with her group of girlfriends in 2017, where she danced on the beach.
A naturally gifted artist, she found a renewed passion for art in retirement, making hundreds of digital illustrations on her iPad, cut paper collages, shell art, wreaths, drawings, and paintings, some of which she sold at local art fairs. She collected buttons and marbles and loved looking for new treasures at thrift stores and garage sales.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren reading books, playing with toys, and just being goofy. She took thousands of videos during the time spent with them, which will be greatly cherished.
She lived with Parkinson's for 15 years, and even as life become more challenging, she couldn't help but slip in a joke at times.
She is survived by her daughters Jamie Eby (Nathan Cosgray) and Kelly Eby; grandson Rylan Myers; granddaughter Piper Mahathy; brother Dan Schuckel; beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; lifelong friends; and new friends made at Park Place Senior Living. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Marylen Pemberton and Barbara Harper.
Memorial service is 1 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E, New Haven with visitation two hours prior (11 to 1 pm).
