Emerald D. Gerig's Obituary
Emerald D. "Em" Gerig, 95, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Parkview Hospital - Randallia, Fort Wayne. Born in Woodburn, he was the son of the late Noah and Elsie Mae (Ehresman) Gerig. He was a member of Westwood Fellowship, Woodburn. He retired from Amstutz Insurance agency in 1989 after a 40-year career as an insurance agent. He was a member of the Christian Business Men's Committee and the Senior Saints Singing Group for over 20 years. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, golfing, bowling, and doing word searches. He is survived by his daughters, Emily (David) Skinner and Onalee (Kevin) Giggy; daughter-in-law, Patricia Gerig; sister, Eloise Thorne of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren, Matthew (Kristi) Skinner, Timothy (Andrea) Skinner, Daniel (Mary) Skinner, Jessica (Eric) Black, Joel (Megan) Gerig, Darrin Giggy, Rachelle (Zach) Eisele and 8 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Gwendolyn in 2020; son, Gregory L. Gerig in 2001; and brother, Merle Gerig in 2013. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Westwood Fellowship, 4100 Becker Rd., Woodburn, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation is also 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in the Mennonite Cemetery, Woodburn.
