She was a great person and a very true friend to my Great Aunt Ercel. My whole family thought the world of her. My sympathies are with you all at this time.
Edna was a Saint. She was to most thoughtful, loving and caring of human beings and a blessing to all with whom she came in contact. I am truly blessed to have been one of her many God Children. God be with her in her home in Heaven.
You have our sincere sympathy at the loss of Edna. She was a special lady! She became part of our family because of Aunt Ercel. We celebrated many Thanksgivings, Christmases, birthdays, confirmations and graduations together. I remember her wall of pitchers, Ideals Christmas magazines as gifts, Leibkuchen, her wig and IU basketball. She always talked to Mark (my husband) about that! Her smile and laugh were infectious!
I'm sorry to hear of Edna's passing. I only recently learned about Edna when Penny Dix Noneman and I connected on Ancestry.com. Edna was the granddaughter of my great grand uncle, Heinrich Diedrich Helmke. Dietrick, as he was known, was the brother of my great grandfather, Frederick (Friedrich) Helmke of Pratt county, Kansas. Edna attended the wedding of my great Aunt Martha Helmke in Pratt County, Ks in the early 1920's!
You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
I just by chance learned of Edna's death. I remember her very well. She brought her parents to Kansas a couple of times, and I believe she helped in bringing her grand parents to Pratt Kansas in 1936 when Martha, son of Fred and Rosine was married.
I think the last time I saw her was when i came to Woodburn for the death of one of her parents. My parents were good friends of her parents and kept fairly close ties.
I most remember Edna for her energy and enthusiasm for whatever she did. Also, she had an incredible salt and pepper shaker collection.
I don't know if anybody around remembers George and Rosa Helmke, my parents, but if I wasn't still recovering from a trip west (I am 82) I would love to come Saturday to the service. Ben Helmke
To the family of Edna Bruns--Edna was a good friend of my parents Glen & Rowena Stucky from Monroe. Because of their friendship, we too looked forward to the times that we could share with Edna. Many New Years Days were enjoyed together at my parents home in Monroe--always watching the Rose Bowl Parade and looking for the Lutheran League float. We always looked forward to her laugh which was characteristic of Edna, her enthusiasm, and her delightful notes at Christmas. Naturally they became harder and harder for her in recent years. Edna was a very special person, but you all know that already. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you celebrate her life again this week end. God's blessing to you. Sincerely, Ned and Jean Stucky

Aunt Edna loved her family and loved life. When I shared with my children of her passing they remembered a time recently when Aunt Edna rode on the back of the lawn mower in a wagon with all the kids. She didn't let the fact that she was in her 90's stop her! And she was amazing at remembering birthdays. She will be missed.
I remember Edna as a warm, caring person, who took pride in her work as a nurse and caring for others. My late parents (Carroll and Alice Dix) spoke so fondly of Edna. At my mother's passing, Edna made certain she was at the funeral services. This kind act....will never be forgotten by my family. Edna valued her Church Family and seeing her at my mother's funeral was so amazing, especially at the age of 100 years. Miss Edna....may you have enteral rest and peace with our Heavenly Father. You will be missed by so many and especially those in the community of Woodburn and Christ Lutheran Church.
