Doris "Dorie" Van Meter's Obituary
Doris “Dorie” Van Meter, 94, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at St. Anne Home, Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, she was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Fort Wayne. She retired in 1993 from Aging and In-Home Services, Fort Wayne with over 20 years of service.
She is survived by her children, Tom (Karen) Van Meter of South Bend and Beth Monn of New Haven; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Van Meter of Chandler, AZ; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Kenneth Van Meter; son, Jerry Van Meter; parents, Arthur and Leona (Gladieux) Szink; brother, Robert Szink; and great grandson, Samuel Van Meter.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anne Home, 1900 Randallia Dr., Fort Wayne with calling from 9 a.m. until service time. Father John Overmeyer officiating. Burial in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, New Haven. Preferred memorials are to the St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen. Arrangements by Harper’s Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 9230 E., New Haven.
