Donald R. Scherer's Obituary
Donald R. Scherer, 94, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023, at Cedarhurst, Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Albert and Helen (Lenz) Scherer. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post 47. He retired in 1991 from Magnavox Corp after 26 years. He enjoyed woodworking, building kitchen cabinets, raising cattle, and farming. An avid sports fan, he loved watching his grandchildren participate in their events, and was an IU Basketball and Atlanta Braves fan. He was a religious man and devoted husband who was very respected and admired. He was known for his humble and kind nature.
He is survived by his children, Stanley (Debra) Scherer of Fort Wayne, Randy (Pam) Scherer of Monroeville, Diane (Jim) Riecken and Connie (Jim) Newman both of Fort Wayne, and Cheryl Schlotter of Fishers; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Louena in 2015; and siblings, Richard Scherer and Carolyn Myers.
Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2023, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 800 Green St, New Haven, with visitations one hour prior. Visitations are also 1 to 4 Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 State Road 930 E., New Haven. Entombment in Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne with military honors.
