Donald E. Gebert's Obituary
Donald E. Gebert, 82, died Friday, November 1, 2013 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born in Ft. Wayne, he was the son of the late Earl and Laura Gebert. He was a lifetime member of Salem United Church of Christ, Ft. Wayne. He served his country as a U.S. Navy medic during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post 330. He was a 33rd degree Mason, Shriner and member of the German Heritage Society.
He retired as an investigative officer for the Allen County Prosecutor's office in 1988 receiving the Silver Star in 1976. He was a member of the Allen County Sheriff's Dept., New Haven Police Dept., former Railroad Policeman, and a volunteer for the New Haven/Adams Twp. Fire Dept.
Don is survived by his wife of 27 years, Marilyn, sons: Tracy Gebert of Ft. Wayne, Jeff Gebert of New Haven, Darcy Gebert and Loren (Angie) Gebert both of Ft. Wayne; step-children: Joen Coil and Tom (Debbie) Webb of Ft. Wayne; 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Donajene; son, Christopher; grandson, Jeff Gebert, Jr. and his brothers, Richard and Robert Gebert.
A Celebration of Don's life will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Salem United Church of Christ, 2401 Lake Ave. Fort Wayne with calling 10 to 1 p.m. prior to service time. Pastor Michael Smith officiating. Preferred memorials are to the Salem U.C.C. Arrangements by E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven.
