Debra Kay Wenzel's Obituary
Debra Kay Wenzel, 72, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Parkview Hospital Randallia, Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Doctor and Betty (Coomer) Doctor who survives. She was a nurse for St. Joe Hospital, Fort Wayne, Heartland Hospice and was a homecare nurse. Debra was a Master Gardener's member, and she liked collecting, antiquing, sewing and flowers. She enjoyed caring for people and especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Debra was a woman of strong faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her family meant everything to her.
She is survived by her husband, Martin Hegerfeld; children, Jon (Sarah) Wenzel, Theresa Wenzel and Jennifer (Andrew) McEwan; siblings, Eugene "Lynn" (Jackie) Doctor, Gregory (Celena) Doctor, Rebecca (Dan) Greenwood and Gina (Brian) Kiess; grandchildren, Paul Wenzel and Melia Wenzel. She was previously married to Arthur Wenzel, who survives. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Douglas Doctor; and sister-in-law, Beth Doctor.
Funeral service is 10:30 am Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Emmanual Ev. Lutheran Church (Soest), 9909 Wayne Trace, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior (9:30-10:30). Visitation will also be from 3 - 7 pm Monday, July 6, 2026, at the church. Burial in Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials to Emmanual Ev.
