Catherine Cecilia Elizabeth McCarron Lonis' Obituary
Catherine Cecilia Elizabeth McCarron Lonis, 91, of New Haven, Indiana passed away Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Parkview Hospital – Randallia, Fort Wayne. Born on June 25, 1925 in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the late James Joseph and Rose Anna (Doyle) McCarron.
Kay grew up one of four children in a close-knit family. She was a two-sport letterman at Central High School, where she met Clifford Winfield Lonis (Bill), who became her husband of 71 years.
After graduating from Central High School, Kay married her high school sweetheart, Bill. She was his "Froggy," and he was her "Bear." She began a twenty year career as a beautician, commanding a chair at Ruth's Beauty Shop. In addition to her work, she raised five active boys, two grandchildren and cared for both her parents and her in-laws. She continued to be competitive in volleyball, golf and bowling throughout her adult life and enjoyed bingo and board games. She and Bill were especially well-known for their dancing and were considered "the best couple on the dance floor" when it came to the jitterbug, slow dancing or the box step. Kay was active in the New Haven United Methodist Church circle activities and Bible Study classes. An avid card player, she regularly emptied the pockets of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A devoted wife and mother, Kay was a friend to all and full of wisdom, which she shared around her kitchen table. And she continued to maintain her friendships forged at Central High School by regularly getting together with her Class of 1943 ladies for monthly lunches.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Bill Lonis; children, David Paul Lonis of New Haven, Cary Michael Lonis of New Haven, Danny Lee Lonis of Roanoke, Randy Bill Lonis of New Haven; grandchildren, Andrea Lonis (Kris) Landrum of Fort Wayne, Cara (Matthew) Lonis Weber of Fort Wayne, Emily Lonis Bohde of Indianapolis, Camela Rae Lonis of New Haven, Zachary Michael (Mary) Lonis of Fort Riley, Kansas, Jeffery Lee (Ronnie) Lonis of Tampa, Florida, Jacqueline Elizabeth Lonis of Roanoke, Samuel James Lonis of New Haven, Kate Angeline Lonis of Atlanta, Georgia; and twelve great-grandchildren.
