Carolyn Fox's Obituary
Carolyn Cleoria “Cleo” (Smith, Johnson) Fox, 85, of New Haven passed away on Monday December 3, 2018 at her new home in Fishers, Indiana. Born July 20, 1933 in Fountain County, Indiana the youngest of three children of the late Susanna “Suzi” Minnie (Catterson) and Earl P. Smith. She always had an uncompromising love of children and youth. She enjoyed an over 20-year teaching career within the Allen County school district at several elementary schools, where programs she developed, such as Space Camp and Cookie Factory, made learning exciting for all her students. She also developed a memorable program on humpback whales after receiving a prestigious grant from the Lilly Foundation that enabled her to join Marine biologists in Australia in studying these majestic animals. She was a Jubilee (50-year) member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Wayne where she served as both a Deacon and an Elder and was very active in the Sunday School and youth programs chaperoning four youth caravans. Her strongest passion always remained her family. She is survived by her current husband Fredrick Fox; children Ethan Branduff, Aimee (Marshall) Galpern and Michael (Sheryl) Johnson; step-children Lon (Robin) Fox, Tracy Fox, and Jenise (Nick) Snyder; grandchildren Erinne (Chris) Westrop, Taylor Galpern, Jonathon Galpern, Kendra Johnson, April Johnson, Davis (Rye) Fox, Derek Fox, Nathan Snyder and Jessica Snyder; and one great-grandchild William Westrop; cousin Nancy (Robert) Stwalley and daughter Heather, sister-in-law Irene Smith and children Anita and Kevin. She was also preceded in death by her first husband Richard P. Johnson and her two brothers Guy and Jessie Smith. Funeral service is 3 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 300 W. Wayne St., Fort Wayne with calling one-hour prior. Rev. Dr. Ann Epling officiating. Calling is also 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Harper’s Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E. New Haven. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials are to First Presbyterian Church or Indiana University Health Hospice, c/o Methodist Health Foundation.
