Thomas Edward Walters' Obituary
Thomas Edward Walters, 83, of Harlan, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025. Born the day after Pearl Harbor in Gary, he was the son of the late Claude and Vivian (Flick) Walters. He was a member of First Baptist Church, New Haven and former member of Calvary Baptist Church, Fort Wayne. He retired in 2003 from Verizon after 37 years. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed golfing, cheering on the Boston Red Sox, Indianapolis Colts, and IU Basketball and was the reigning champion of the family fantasy football league.
He is survived by his children, Vanessa (Duane) Petry, Brian (Beverly) Young, Debra Taylor, Glen Walters, Vonda Young, and Melanie (Mike) Moses; siblings, Ronald Walters and Carolyn Gilbert; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Shirley in 2021; son, Bradley Young; brother, Richard Walters; grandson, Bryan Kolt Young; and son-in-law, Jeff Taylor.
Funeral service is 11 am Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with visitation one hour prior. Visitation is also 4 to 8 pm Monday, October 6, 2025, at the funeral home. Burial in IOOF Cemetery, New Haven. Preferred memorials to Gideons International.
