Angie Martin
My heartfelt condolences to Tom's family.
Tom was one of a kind! A kind, caring, smart, and dedicated person who always had a smile for anyone.
I was his boss at the Indiana University School of Medicine, where he (and his late wife Alison) portrayed patients so my students could practice history taking and physical exam with him. He was wonderful! He loved playing different characters and portraying different ailments. He enjoyed working with the students so much, providing them with valuable feedback to help them grow into compassionate physicians. He shared his story of being a 'zebra' (having a rare condition) many times, educating our students on the importance of listening to your patients, and never giving up until all questions are answered such as what causes their problems.
Over the years his condition got worse, but his passion to help others, empower others to pursue their dreams just became even bigger.
He was on a mission: to make this world a better place, one smile at a time.
