Thelma E. Hoetzer's Obituary
Thelma E. Hoetzer, 106, passed peacefully on Friday, May 13, 2016 in Sarasota, FL. Born in Sainte Marie, IL, she was the daughter of the late Emil and Mathilda “Mattie” (Houser) Spitzer. She received her RN degree in 1930 from St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield, IL. Thelma married Eldore M. Hoetzer, MD, who preceded her in death in 1980, and lived in the New Haven/Ft. Wayne area until 2008. She was president of the New Haven Women's Club in 1963, active in St John the Baptist Catholic Church, and volunteered at Fort Wayne Red Cross. She loved to play bridge.
She is survived by children, Stephen (Mary Ellen) Hoetzer of Hazen, ND, Karen (Henry) Miller of Osprey, FL, Joelyn (Ron) Gentry of Cicero, and Gretchen (Kerry) Weger of Bloomington; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Elizabeth Gentry; and nine siblings.
Calling is 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven followed by immediate graveside service at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, New Haven. Father Bill Sullivan officiating. Preferred memorials are to Parkview Home Health and Hospice, Fort Wayne.
