To Ruth Lahr's family:
First let me say that I am so sorry about the passing of your mother and grandmother. She holds a special place in my heart and I am sure a very special spot in all of yours. We not only shared the same first name but we also shared the same passion for teaching young children. I met her in 1968 when I was 21 years old, and I began my second year of teaching at Meadowbrook Elementary in second grade right across the hall. She was my coach and my mentor for 3 years before I left teaching to raise my family. Many years later in 1994 I went back to teaching full time at Hoagland Elementary. Ruth's grandson was a student at that school and one day she came to find me in my first grade classroom. That day was such a happy reunion for us. Somehow I twisted her arm that day to volunteer in my classroom and she came once a week for the next 16 years until I retired. She listened to my children read their weekly vocabulary words, read books, do make up work, learn math facts, etc. She was so faithful and knowledgeable and so good with each individual child. What a blessing it was to have her in my classroom. She truly enriched my children and helped me immensely with the classroom responsibilities. I know we accomplished so much more because she was an integral part of our classroom. She was beautiful friend and co worker. I had lunch with her a few years ago but otherwise haven't seen her recently. God bless you all as you grieve her loss. Please let me know when you have a memorial service. I would love to be able to attend.
