Call Me Coach
Thank you kids for being the reason
That I coach in my head, for another season
Who was more nervous that very first day
You guys learning, or me teaching you to play
Out on the diamond I feel like a kid again
But after practice, my age settles in
My muscles ache, and my bones feel sore
Then I ice them, and I'm better than before
At the start of the game, I think far away
Back to a time when I still could play
My boyhood memories, I'm thinking in my head
My boys, my kids, "They can play!" I said
The sandlot at St. Joe is still there today
Now my grandkids all come there ready to play
The grass grows green where the pitcher's mound stood
A boyhood landmark from the old neighborhood
Coach, Hey Coach, I hear from a place far far away
Are you going to pitch to me sometime today?
Back to the game, with you all at last
My boyhood memories tucked away in the past
Hey coach, everything alright? I'm asked with a grin
Just perfect kids
Hey, thanks again
