Robert Francis Schmidt's Obituary
Robert Francis Schmidt, 81, of Leesburg, FL, formerly of New Haven and Lake Tippecanoe, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Orlando Health South Lake Hospital. Born on November 20, 1941, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Norman and Helena "Ella" (Temple) Schmidt. Robert was a very proud American, he believed in earning what he had. Loved God, Family, Nature, and NASCAR. He was a truck Driver for almost 40 years. The first part of his career was hauling heavy machinery, the last 15 + Years were as a car hauler. He was a proud member of the Teamsters Local 414. The highways were his back yard, even though he retired when he was 62, he continued to travel and enjoyed the open road. Very young at heart, just 4 weeks ago he told us he wasn't like OLD people, (we told him - yes, he was) his mind was forever young, even if his body betrayed him, he fought for every minute of life that he had.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nannette (Boggess) Schmidt; children, Scott (Jeanette) Schmidt, Tami Hoffman, Jeff Schmidt, and Melissa Miller; siblings, William (Jane) Schmidt, Lucy Anderson, Susan Sorg, Carol Doehrman, 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Joe Schmidt, John Schmidt, George Schmidt, Al Schmidt, Marie Schmidt, and Ruth Pyle.
Mass of Christian Burial is 12 p.m. Friday, October 20, 2023, at St. Joseph Hessen Cassel Catholic Church, 11521 US Hwy 27 South, Fort Wayne with visitation two hours prior. Visitation is also 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 19. 2023, at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in the church cemetery.
