Robert Holt's Obituary
Robert E. Holt, 97, was called Home on January 14, 2023. Born June 20, 1925, in Oblong, IL he was the youngest of four children born to Chester and Hazel Holt. He graduated from Oblong High School and during WWII he served in the U.S. Navy for 29 months aboard the USS Dobbin in the Pacific. He received a B.S. in Education Degree from Indiana Central College and a master's degree from Ball State University. He was the principal at New Haven Elementary and Meadowbrook Elementary and then the Assistant Superintendent at East Allen County Schools until his retirement in 1984. He was active in the New Haven United Methodist Church where he was a trustee and served many years on the Missions Team, including yearly mission trips in the US and one in Africa.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, June (Dipert) Holt; children Steven (Terri) Holt of Valparaiso, Gary (Lynn) Holt, Susie (Kyle) Platt and daughter-in-law Pam Holt, all of New Haven; 6 grandchildren: Shelley Holt and Julie (Jason Dobson) Holt of Las Vegas, Nick (Jenn) Goranson, Sam (Emily Shaw) Holt, Kelly (Dan Tolomay) Holt all of New Haven, and Emilee (Casey) Johnson of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son David and brothers Weldon and Howard and sister Mary.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2023, at New Haven United Methodist Church with visitation 2 hours prior. Preferred memorials are to the Missions team at NHUMC or Lucille Raines Residence, Indianapolis. Arrangements by Harper's Community Funeral Home.
