Robert Dean Frock's Obituary
Robert "Bob" D. Frock, 90, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at Woodcrest of Decatur. Born in New Haven, he was the son of the late Harper and Lola (Parrish) Frock. After returning from serving his country in the US Army during the Korean War, Bob Frock tried out a handful of jobs before landing in his career as a rural route carrier for the United States Post Office. His work there not only earned him his pension, it also got him his gal. One sunny afternoon delivery to Sara Jane was all it took, and Bob decided to personally hand-deliver Sara's mail for the rest of his life. His favorite place after a long, dusty day on the gravel roads of rural Indiana was on the couch with his head in Sara's lap, watching Wheel of Fortune with his sweetie. We're certain Sara's got her mail now and Bob's head is back in its favorite spot. Bob and Sara were generous of their spirit, time and love, and were active members of the New Haven United Methodist Church as well as their local chapter of Eastern Star 600, Waynedale and Masonic Lodge 739, Wayndale. They also owned and operated the Twistee Freeze, a staple of summer life in small town New Haven for 25 years. Bob and Sara loved to travel and made it to every state in the continental U.S. - many more than once - mostly in their Sportscoach RV. Bob's tastes were simple: something sweet after supper, a bowl of popcorn with the evening sitcoms, a handful of posies from his flower garden and someone he loved to share it all with. Despite his grief over losing his wife of 57 years, Sara, in December of 2020, Bob continued to enjoy his simple pleasures, which included gardening in the raised flower bed behind the home his grandson Tim Frock and his wife Michelle graciously opened to him. He lived his last years there, nurturing his plants and tending to small projects now and again, until shortly before his passing when his medical needs became too great. We are assured that Bob - who, as they say, never knew a stranger - will have no problem striking up conversation in the hereafter, but his ready laughter and helpful spirit will be missed down here. Rest in peace husband, father, grandpa. You were loved.
He is survived by his stepchildren, Dale (Freda) Parker and David (Gayle) Parker both of Columbia City, and Barbara Ferguson of New Haven; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his son, Wayne Frock; and sister, Katie Frock.
