Richard James Ruger's Obituary
Richard James Ruger, 92, passed away on September 1, 2017 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born in Payne, OH, he was the son of the late Ward and Anna (Matzen) Ruger. A resident of New Haven since 1948, he was a process engineer at International Harvester in the production planning department for 37 years, retiring in 1982. He enjoyed working with stained glass, woodworking, fishing, and reading. He especially loved poetry and loved to quote his favorites to his family and friends.
He is survived by children, Karen (David) Johnston of Fort Wayne, Janet Kirby, Linda Travers, Mark (Diana) Ruger, Kevin (Karen) Ruger and Ellyn Forsyth all of New Haven; daughter-in-law, Patricia Ruger of Fort Wayne; brother, Dean Ruger of Port Charlotte, FL; 8 grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; caregivers, Lynn and Russ Watson of New Haven. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Rosalie (Schnelker) Ruger in 2000; son, Neil Ruger in 2005; grandson, Peter Johnston in 1993; 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Thursday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with calling one hour prior. His nephew, Steven Ruger officiating. Calling is also 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, New Haven. Preferred memorials to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana or the American Diabetes Association of Allen County.
