Richard L. Mackin's Obituary
Richard L. Mackin, 79, died, Friday, June 24, 2011 at Village Oaks at Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Howard and Evelyn Mackin. He was a member of Martini Lutheran Church, New Haven. He served his country in the US Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the New Haven Adams Twp. Fire Dept., he was a former fire chief of Adams Twp. Fire Dept. #1, he was honored by the Allen County Firefighters Assoc. as Firefighter of the Year 1986, and a 50 year life member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Assoc. He retired in 1982 from Dana Corp after 32 ½ years.
He is survived by his children, Michael L. (Cathy) Mackin of New Haven, Robert L. (Stefanie) Mackin and Emma Jean (Jean) Smith both of Fort Wayne, Darla J. (Michael) Drew of Auburn, and Janet A. (David) Burke of Ossian; siblings, Thomas Mackin Sr. and Phyllis Statler; grandchildren, Kevin (Shelley) and Adam Drew, Nathan and Jordan Burke, Michael and Jenna Mackin, Kimberly and Kristen Smith, and Stephanie and Kaitlyn Mackin; and five great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 2003; and brother, James A. Mackin, Sr.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Matt Kohl officiating. Calling is 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with an I.V.F.A. memorial service at 8 p.m. Burial is in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials to I.V.F.A.A. Mary Mackin Scholarship Fund or Alzheimer’s Association.
