Raymond Lewis Balogh Sr's Obituary
Raymond “Ray” Lewis Balogh Sr., 91, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Parkview Hospital Randallia, Fort Wayne. Born in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of the late Frank and Clara (Kapiro) Balogh. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Briceton, OH. He proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII aboard the USS Roxane AKA-37 and was a member of the American Legion Post 499, Fort Wayne, The Howard Bandelier V.F.W. 2457, New Haven, and American Legion Post 297, Payne, OH. Ray was an auto service repair mechanic who ran and operated over the years Rays’ Standard, Ray’s Marathon, and Ray’s Garage all in Fort Wayne and retired in 2004. He ran a fast pitch softball team for over 40 years. Ray was the president of Victory Bowling League, Fort Wayne. Ray enjoyed Cleveland sports, dogs, reading, history, and eating Zestos Yogurt.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Joyce; children, Raymond (Sharon) Balogh of Brook Park, Ohio, Raymond “Buddy” Balogh and Gary (Jeanne) Balogh both of Nappanee, Ricky (Terye) Balogh of Boulder Creek, CA, and Wendy Kurtz of Fort Wayne; step-children, Adam Blackburn of Fort Wayne, Theresa (Bill) Brennan of Helena, OH, Jennifer (Ray) Hadley of Ada, OH, Sharon (Dan) Batyk of Kenton, OH, and Linda (James) Tenney of Fayette, IA; daughter-in-law, Georganna Balogh of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by son, Frank Balogh; brother, Frank Balogh; and wife, Grace in 1995.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2018 at Harper Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with visitation one hour prior. Visitation is also 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne with military honors. Preferred memorials to the church or Howard Bandelier VFW Post 2457.
