Norman Wente's Obituary
Norman Wente, 89, of New Haven, died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born in Adams County, he was the son of the late Christian and Lydia Wente. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and the Men's Club. He retired in 1988 after a lifetime of farming.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Ruth; children, Max (Mary) Wente of Woodburn, Dennis (Karen) Wente of Milliken, CO, and Arlene (Leon) Werling of Ossian; step-children, Kathy (Kenny) Gerbers of Fort Wayne, Donnalyn (Roger) Melcher of New Haven, Jacqueline (Neal) Rekeweg of Fort Wayne, and Carolyn (Tom) Hirsch of Woodburn; sisters, Hildegard Graft of Ossian and Louise Brown of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and 19 step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Ethel Wente in 1990; sister, Gertrude Miller; and brother, Edgar Wente.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 7710 E. State Blvd., Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior. Pastor Heath A. Trampe officiating. Calling is also 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in the church cemetery. Preferred memorials are to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Parkview Home Health and Hospice, or Worship for Shut-ins.
