Mildred "Millie" (Schnelker) Nulf's Obituary
Millie Nulf, 105, passed from this life to eternity with the Lord, October 25, 2023, on her birthday. She was born on October 25, 1918, to the late William and Carrie (Sorg) Schnelker in their home on Main St. in New Haven, Indiana. She was the 7th of 11 children. Millie was happy in any situation-including challenges and adversity. She even found joy in seeing everyday sights others would absentmindedly ignore. One of her daughters said that Mom had so much joy, that it's natural that we are joyfully celebrating this time. We are so grateful that we had, as one granddaughter put it, "extended time" with her: years marveling at her positivity and wit and her love for people and socializing, playing with children, traveling, helping others, appreciating words, learning, working challenging crossword puzzles, gardening, and exercising at Curves (When she attended, she was the second-oldest member in the nation!). Some New Haven area people might remember her as a server at Kittinger's restaurant and after that, working in Dr. Sidell's office for 25 years. Others might remember her attending Mass daily for decades and being active in Christ Renews His Parish (CHIRP) and Harvest House. Millie was baptized at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Haven and attended there regularly until she moved full-time to St. Petersburg three years ago.
She is survived by daughters, Elizabeth (Greg) MacDonald, Barbara (Earl) Alderfer, Marilyn (Thomas) Vickers, and Cindy Wood; grandchildren, Bridgette (Jeff) Gatch, Heidi (Brad) Thomas, Lydia (Craig) Boreman, Kristi (Jake) Frohreich, Katelyn (Zach) High, Michael (Melissa) Wood, Stephen (Michele) Wood; and nine great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her former husband, Phil; son-in-law, Jeff Wood; and siblings, Agnes Van Winkle, Dorothy Zoeller, Mary Yaggy, Gertrude Weber, Jeannette Hiatt Johnson, Marjorie Bailey, Harold, Robert, Donald and Oliver Schnelker.
Mass of Christan Burial is 11 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 943 Powers St., New Haven with visitation two hours prior (9am to 11am). Inurnment in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Masses for Millie or donations to St. John the Baptist elementary school.
