Mary Johnson York's Obituary
Mary Mae Johnson-York, 81, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born in Tell City, IN she was the daughter of the late Henry and Cora (Hollander) Leistner. She belonged to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, New Haven. She proudly served her country in the U.S. Army with the Women’s Army Corps. She was a nurse for various home care services. She was a devoted and cherished Mother and Grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, crochet, cross stitching, and making things. She especially loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her children, William “Billy” Johnson, Joseph (Cathy) Johnson, Doreen (Floyd) Hickey, Teresa (Will Emerson) Brown; sisters, Teresa Tafoya, and Joann Ferran; grandchildren, Joshua Johnson, Jeremiah Johnson, Kambria Johnson, Dean Johnson, Justin Johnson, Ashley Johnson, Emily Phillips, Timothy Lunsford, Chase Wood, Jacob Wood, Alivia Wood, Hannakate Wood, and Adeline Brown; a host of great grandchildren which she loved, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her 2 husbands, Austin G. Johnson, and Oscar York; sisters, Betty Hoffman, and Dorothy Blaising. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 943 Powers St., New Haven with visitation one and a half hours prior at the church. Burial in the church cemetery. Preferred memorials are for masses in her name.
