Mary Ellen Thompson's Obituary
Mary Ellen Thompson, 89, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Genesis Healthcare, New Haven. Born in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Rose (Spice) Baermann. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. She was a school cook for over twenty years at Fort Wayne Community Schools. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 377. Mary Ellen loved gardening, camping, bowling, traveling with her husband, cats, getting together with her childhood friends and playing a few good hands of Euchre. She also loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Lennie (Janace) Thompson of New Haven, James (Yvonne) Thompson of Yuma, AZ, Allen (Cathy) Thompson of Fort Wayne, and Alvin Thompson of Woodburn; brother, Carl (Joan) Baermann of Columbia City; seven grandchildren; one step granddaughter; 11 great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; and seven step great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James Thompson; twins, James and Susan Thompson; sister, Alice Hall; and grandchildren, Zackary and Bobby Jean Thompson.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday at Harper’s Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Steve Ahlersmeyer officiating. Visitation is also 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials are to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne.
