Mary L. Barnes' Obituary
Mary L. Barnes, 90, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Bethlehem Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation, Fort Wayne. Born in Wabash, she was the daughter of the late John and Ethel (Slayman) Gardner. A former hairdresser, she was a bakery clerk for over 20 years and was with New Haven Bakery for 15 years. She was a member of Loyal Order of Moose 1480 and American Legion Post 330. She loved playing cards, fishing, watching game shows, dining out, dancing, watching baseball, playing bingo, volunteering, and watching old movies.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth Barnes of New Haven, Michael (Wanda) Barnes of Chipley, FL, Linda Landis of Fort Wayne, and Lisa (Todd) Closson of Woodburn; step-children, Linda Heath, Lynn Bricker, Hope (Randy) Miller of Fort Wayne, and David (Laura) Wilson of Leo-Cedarville; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Barnes Jr. in 1972; children, David Barnes in 2004 and Luanne Omspacher in 1997; one brother; and one sister.
Funeral service is 2 p.m. Monday at Harper’s Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E. New Haven with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Rick Fletcher officiating. Visitation is also 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Entombment in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials to Turnstone Center for Children and Adults with Disabilities or Moose Lodge 1480.
