Marjorie D. Walls' Obituary
Marjorie "Marge" Dean (Shank) Walls passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Heritage Pointe of Fort Wayne. Born September 8, 1923, to Lafayette "Lafe" Ellsworth Shank and Mary Myrtle (Strong) Shank in Gas City, IN, Marge grew up in Albany, IN, and graduated from Albany High School.
Following graduation, Marge moved to Ft. Wayne to do her part in WW II, testing bomb detonators at Magnavox. Later employment included cooking at Shambaugh Elementary School's cafeteria and working at Land's End Sales' warehouse. She was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church and was very active in Women of the Elks and the Red Hat Society. An avid sports follower, she was a charter member of the Chicago Cubs fan club.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, sister Evelyn Crabill, brothers Rupert and Joseph Shank, husband John "Jack" F. Walls, former husband Richard E. Pettyjohn, and stepdaughter Janet L. Walls. She is survived by sons Steven (Lynn) Pettyjohn, North Ridgeville, OH; and Rick (Karen) Pettyjohn, Convoy, OH; stepson John L. (Linda) Walls, Ft. Wayne, IN; grandchildren Stacie Pettyjohn, Alexandria, VA; Mark Pettyjohn, Columbus, OH; Lee Pettyjohn, Ft. Wayne; and Patrick (Lindsey) Pettyjohn, Noblesville, IN; step-granddaughter Christina (Jesse) Schroeder, Ottawa, OH; six great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; and nephews Jack Crabill and Joe Shank.
Arrangements will be by Harper Community Funeral Home, New Haven, IN; service and interment will be at Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Ft. Wayne, at 11:00 A.M., Sat., September 9, with calling for one hour beforehand. Preferred memorials are to Messiah Lutheran Church, 7211 Stellhorn Road, Ft. Wayne, 46815; or Promedica Hospice, 2720 Dupont Commerce Court, Suite. 210, Ft. Wayne, 46825.
