Loren Marcell Powers' Obituary
Loren Marcell Powers, 89, of New Haven, went home to the Lord on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Cedarhurst Senior Living, Fort Wayne. Born in Randolph County (Ridgeville), Ind., he was the son of the late Waymond and Valetta "Irene" (Cline) Powers.
Loren worked many jobs through the years in sales and customer service, the most recent of which were The Crosby Group, Tuthill Corporation, and eventually retiring at WaterFurnace. He always joked that the job he worked the longest was mowing lawns, for 80 years.
Loren was a great musician starting out early in life by singing and playing trumpet in a gospel music group, Musical Messengers. He served his country in the US Army during the Berlin Conflict and was a proud supporter of those who served. He was a member of Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, Fort Wayne, and served in many roles at the churches he attended through the years as a Sunday School teacher, Jr. Church Director, youth group leader, song leader, board member, and head usher to name a few. He most enjoyed singing in church choirs and playing his trumpet for 80 years.
Favorite activities later in life included riding his bike outdoors for nearly 3,000 miles from spring to fall every year. His last major ride outdoors was the 60-mile Fort for Fitness bike ride that he completed at age 85.
He was a treasured friend to many, beloved son and brother, loving husband of 59 years, incredible father, absolutely perfect Grandpa, and most importantly, faithful follower of Jesus.
He is survived by his daughters, Denise Powers and Deanna (Ed) Arnold; brother, Elvin (Verla) Powers; and grandson, Tyler Arnold. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Martha in 2017; and son, Douglas Alan Powers.
Funeral service is 1 pm Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, 8611 Mayhew Road, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Visitation is also 6 to 8 pm Friday, May 29, 2026, at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in IOOF Cemetery, New Haven. Preferred memorials to the church or Alzheimer's Association.
The family would like to thank Cedarhurst Senior Living staff and residents for the beautiful community and joy provided these past three years and Heart to Heart Hospice for the unbelievable care given over these past several months.
