Joseph L. Myers' Obituary
Joseph L. Myers, 78, went to be with his Lord, Tuesday, December 3, 2013, surrounded by family at Ashton Creek Health and Rehabilitation. Born in Richmond on May 10, 1935, he was the son of the late Paul and Margaret Myers. He attended and graduated from Richmond High School, where he enjoyed being on their football and wrestling teams, excelling in taking State Championships. Joe loved boating on Lake Wawasee and Lake Erie, was a member and past Commodore of NIBA. The avid Chicago Bears fan enjoyed traveling, hunting morel mushrooms in the spring, and his favorite winter hobby was working jigsaw puzzles. After retiring from Navistar with over 40 years of service as a Project Engineer, he and his wife, Sharon, enjoyed living in Florida for over ten years. While there they resided in Sun City Center, FL, and then Bradenton, FL, returning to Fort Wayne in 2005. Joe was a loving and caring husband and father, giving his family and friends many wonderful memories of times together.
He is survived by his wife, whom he shared 28 happy and loving years, Sharon; children, Jeffrey (Susan) Myers and Kym (Bill) Guevara; step-children, Amy Leitch, Julie (Andrew) Vesey, Bill Marvin; grandchildren, Kelly, Jeremy, Stephanie, Juliun, Thadius, Emily, Josh, Marissa and Allison; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Olyvia, Christian, Sebastian, Lilyana, Parker, Graham, Evie, and an expectant great-grandson in April, 2014; and siblings, Richard Myers, of South Carolina, Patty (Gayle) Harvey and Lois (Jim) Dudas both of Richmond; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Brehm.
Memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Concordia Cemetery Gardens Chapel, 5300 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior. Preferred memorials are to Messiah Lutheran Church, Worship for Shut-ins, or Parkinson's Disease Foundation. Joe's family wishes to sincerely thank the entire staff at Parkview CCC/Randallia and Ashton Creek Health and Rehabilitation for the excellent and loving care they administered to Joe every day he was under their care.
