John Luther Vickrey's Obituary
JOHN L. VICKREY, 77, died on August 22, 2017 at his home with his family by his side. Born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on August 27, 1939 he was the son of the late Carl Sr. and Evelyn (Luther) Vickrey. The Vickrey family moved to Fort Wayne in 1986 when John became the Executive Director of Northeast Indiana American Heart Association. In 1988 he also supply preached at Saturn Christian Church in Columbia City. In February of 1989 he was called as pastor of North Christian Church where he served until retirement in August of 2004. He was ordained in 1968 at his student pastorate in Marion, Kentucky and served churches in Eaton and Gas City, Indiana and Sterling Illinois.
He is survived by his wife Sandra K. Vickrey of Fort Wayne; son, John Mark Vickrey of Fort Wayne, and grandchildren Truitt and Allyson.
Funeral service is 1 p.m. Monday at Taylor Chapel United Methodist Church, 10145 Maysville Rd., Fort Wayne with calling two hours prior. Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Garden of Memory, Muncie, Indiana. For a memorial please do a random act of kindness for your family, a friend or a stranger giving God all praise and glory.
