John "Johnny" Michael Filosa, 86, of New Haven, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Parkview Hospital Randalia, Fort Wayne. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Baldassario and Elivera (DiMaio) Filosa. He was a member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, New Haven, Knights of Columbus, Holy Name, and the American Legion Post 330. The Army veteran served his country in Korea. After 35 plus years as a machinist, he retired from Bowmar, Fort Wayne. Johnny was well known for his art work using walnuts. His art is displayed in many local businesses and restaurants.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Leonora (Carretta) Filosa; children, John (Marianne) Filosa of Fort Wayne, Phillip (Beth) Filosa of New Haven, Annmarie (Thomas) Ryan of New Haven, and Leonora Mueller of Fort Wayne; 12 Grandchildren, and 11 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 9 siblings.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 943 Powers St., New Haven with calling one hour prior. Father Bill Sullivan officiating. Calling is also 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Thursday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with a vigil at 3:30 p.m. Burial in the church cemetery with military honors. Preferred memorial are to St. John's School or to Masses.
