John J. Becker's Obituary
John J. Becker, 92, of Fort Wayne, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Saint Anne Home, Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late August and Josephine (Wehrle) Becker. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Purdue University, and Ball State University. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a very active member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Fort Wayne and St. Vincent De Paul Society, where in 2004 he started the woodworking shop and continued to participate until 2023. He was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus #451, where he served as a past Faithful Navigator, and was also a board member for Gibault Children's Services, Terre Haute. During his 50-year teaching career he taught at Northside High School, Heritage High School, Harding High School, IPFW, and University of St. Francis, retiring in 1998. He also served as an Indiana State Representative for District 80 from 1994-1996. John enjoyed fishing, walking, riding his bike, and meeting his friends for breakfast and lunch. He especially loved doing and making things for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Tim (Mary) Becker; sister, Phyllis Burke; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Jean Becker in 2013; daughter, Julia Katherine Howell in 2017; and siblings, Mary Becker, Thomas Becker, William Becker, Roselyn Burgard, Sally Noll, and Joan Allen.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Monday, December 22, 2025, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 2130 Pemberton Dr., Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Visitation is also 1 to 5 pm Sunday, December 21, 2025, at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with a rosary service at 5 pm by the Knight of Columbus.
