Joan Marilyn Schmutte's Obituary
Joan Marilyn Schmutte, 97, of New Haven, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Parkview Randallia, Fort Wayne. Born in Kent, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Florence (Coolidge) Redmond. She was a member of New Haven United Methodist Church. Joan attended Kent State University studying art and was a member of their Symphony Orchestra. Her life was marked by kindness, independence, resilience, and unwavering love for her family, friends and God. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who had a gentle spirit and generous heart. She was so proud to have her legacy continue with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who she adored. Joan was a member of a Garden Club, Home Economics Club, and Allen County Extension Club. She was a church secretary at St. John Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. She had a passion for gardening, quilting, reading, puzzles, and family.
Joan is survived by her children, Steve (Glenda) and David (Maryann) Schmutte, Karen (Gene) Murray, and Linda (Denny) Stuerzenberger; grandchildren, Arista (Pat) Reith, Ryan (Taber) Murray, Samuel and Benjamin Schmutte, Brian (Sarah) Stuerzenberger, Jackie (Aaron) Schaffer, and Ellen (Matt) Eckhart; and great grandchildren, Emerson and Macie Reith, Eleanor and Frederick Murray, Carter, Grant, and Reagan Stuerzenberger, Mac, Zoe, and Remy Schaffer, and Griffin and Lola Eckhart. Joan was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Gordon; and siblings, Janet North and Donald Redmond.
Funeral service is 12 pm Monday, July 1, 2024, at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with visitation from 10:30 am to 12 pm prior. Burial in IOOF Cemetery, New Haven.
