When Jeff was a teenager, he and many of the kids from the Youth Group at church worked on various properties that I managed in the TriCities. Because of Jef, Matt and Jonathan I had to maintain a well supplied First Aid Kit. One of them were constantly getting scraped or nicked. But they were fearless and would do anything that I asked of them and a lot of things that I did not ask of them. lol The day I looked up and saw Jeff climbing a tree with a chainsaw (running) I almost had a heart attack. I told him to very carefully turn the saw off (of course, he had a hard time hearing with the saw running). I don’t think relief has ever felt so good. I asked him to climb back down the tree as quickly and carefully as he could. When he got back on the ground, I asked him what he was doing. He said that he was going to cut some limbs down. I asked him who told him to do that and he replied, no one. I said then why were you doing that? He said, they are dead. I said, if you get more than 6 inches off the ground or start another power tool then you may not be dead but you will be severely bruised and I will do it.
I loved his willingness to help and do anything that needed doing and his happy, smiling personality. I don’t know what brought his life to the point he felt the need to end it but I do know that he touched many other lives along the way; AND MINE WAS ONE OF THEM. I pray for Jeff and his family. I pray God gives you all the peace that passes understanding. God bless, Kathryn Guffey
