Janice Smith's Obituary
Janice L. Smith, 85, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Kingston Care Center, Fort Wayne. Janice was a person who never minced words, who loved wholeheartedly and who spoke directly. She was kind, generous, funny, intelligent, defiant, stubborn, and at heart gracious and warm. She never met a flower she wouldn’t plant or a cat she wouldn’t adopt. As a mother she showed her affection every day. As a wife, she built a life and a love that endured and prevailed and flourish for almost 65 years.
She is survived by her husband, Richard, her “Dukey”; daughters Natalie Smith and Elizabeth (Mark) Smith-Meyer, both of Fort Wayne; siblings, Nancy (James) Helmer of Fort Wayne and Thomas (Kathy) Epple of Springfield, OH; two grandchildren whom she adored and spoiled, Alexandra (Mark) Meyer Balle and Ian Meyer; and two cats, Margaux and William. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Dorothy Epple, and a brother, Richard Epple.
Funeral Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Harper’s Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with visitation one hour prior. Father Bill Sullivan officiating. Visitation is also 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with vigil prayer at 4 p.m. Burial in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials to St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, New Haven.
