James William "Big Jim" Thompson's Obituary
James William "Big Jim" Thompson, 87, of New Haven, passed away June 16, 2014 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Elmer and Adella Thompson. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. The US Marine veteran served his country in the Korean War. He was also a member and past commander of American Legion Post 377, Woodburn. He was a truck driver with Magnavox Corp for 30 years. Jim loved camping, bowling, fishing, playing euchre, and was a sports enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary; sons, Lennie (Janace) Thompson of New Haven, James (Yvonne) Thompson of Yuma, AZ, Allen (Cathy) Thompson of Fort Wayne, and Alvin Thompson of Woodburn; siblings, Loyd Thompson of St. Simons Island, GA and LaVern Graves of Arcola; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his twins, James and Susan Thompson; grandchildren, Zackary and Bobby Jean Thompson; and brothers, Robert and Thomas Thompson.
Funeral Service is 10 a.m. Saturday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with calling one hour prior. Pastor Steve Ahlersmeyer officiating. Calling is also 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial in the church cemetery with military honors. Preferred memorials are to Worship for Shut-ins or St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
