Ida "Edie" Griebel's Obituary
Ida (Edie) Griebel, 97, of Hoagland passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. at Adams Heritage in Monroeville. She was born the seventh of 12 children on February 23, 1925, in Rolante, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, South America to missionary parents, the late Reverend H.J. and Emily (Pulwitt) Reinking. The Reinking family returned to the United States in 1926, settling in the Woodburn area. Edie attended Zion Lutheran School, Bull Rapids, and Woodburn High School. At age 16 she moved to Ft. Wayne to become a domestic helper, returning to the Bull Rapids area on weekends to spend time with her large family. Proud of her Lutheran heritage, it was at a Walther League event that she met her future husband, Richard Griebel, who preceded her in death 2015. They were married June 2, 1945 and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary prior to Dick's passing in 2015. Edie worked at Magnavox before moving to Hoagland where she became Dick's helpmate on the farm. She worked tirelessly driving tractor, planting, and harvesting a large garden, helping in the making of maple syrup, apple cider, sorghum molasses and hand loomed rugs, but her greatest accomplishment was raising her six children on the farm. She instilled in them, through example, the Christian principles she held so dear. Her lifelong wish was that all her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren would come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior and remain steadfast in their faith. She prayed nightly for each family member by name before retiring.
Edie is survived by her children, Pamela Bradtmueller of New Haven, Beverly Smith of Hoagland, Sharon (Steve Foote) Hare of Rising Sun, Andrea (Annie) Counterman of Ft. Wayne, Thomas (Sheryl) Griebel of Chippewa Falls, WI and Caroline (Dallas) Groten of Spring Valley, MN; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and brother, H. Frederick Reinking of Quincy, IL. She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Nancy; grandson, Scott Saalfrank; sons-in-law, Lynn Bradtmueller, Jerry Saalfrank, John Smith, and Bruce Counterman; siblings Naomi (Sally) Greim, John Reinking, Margaret Stoppenhagen, Anna Rohlfing, Gertrude Byerlein, Alma Hostetler, Henry Reinking, Marie (Bee) Jacobs, Ruth Johnsen, and Dorothea (Dottie) Quinones.
Honoring Edie's wishes, a private family service and burial will occur. Preferred memorials are to Worship Anew or LCMS World Relief and Human Care, PO Box 66861, St. Louis, MO 63166. . Arrangements by Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. To share online condolences please visit www.harperfuneralhome.com
