Herman "Herm" F. Spieth's Obituary
Herman "Herm" F. Spieth, 83, of New Haven, died Thursday, December 4, 2014 at home with his family by his side. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Ferdinand and Marcella (Gerardot) Spieth. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, New Haven and the Holy Name Society. The US Army veteran served his country in the Korean War. He retired from The Teamsters after 28 years. He also worked as a custodian at St. John's New Haven School for 11 years.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Evelyn "Effie"; children, Stan Spieth of New Haven, Angela (Matthew) Meyers and Donna (Michael) O'Shaughnessey, both of Fort Wayne, Sherri (Mitchell) Mailand of Hoagland, and Doug (Robin) Spieth of Monroeville; siblings, Francis, Bernard (Rosie), Donald (Maria), Mary Royal, Margie Schleninkofer, Patricia (Michael) Krammer and Rita (Thomas) Walker; and 16 grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Walter, James, and Larry; and daughter-in-law, Gina Spieth.
Mass of Christian Burial is 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 943 Powers St., New Haven with calling one prior. Father Bill Sullivan officiating. Calling is 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with a vigil at 7:45p.m. followed by a rosary. Burial in St. Louis Besancon Cemetery, New Haven. Preferred memorials are to Masses, Turnstone, or the Parkinson Foundation.
