Herbert W. Rekeweg's Obituary
Herbert W. Rekeweg, 92, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at Park Place Senior Living, Ft. Wayne. Born in Maumee Twp., he was the son of the late Fred and Frieda (Woebbeking) Rekeweg. Herb was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, Woodburn, where he was active in the choir until he was ninety. He was a farmer and also enjoyed 20 years as a substitute rural mail carrier. He served many organizations including Allen County Co-op Board of Directors (25 years), Allen County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, Board of Directors of the Indiana District of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, Woodburn Lutheran School Board, and the Woodburn Park Board .
He is survived by Pauline (Maehlmann) Rekeweg, his loving wife of 71 years; children, Don (Carolyn) Rekeweg and Carol (Mike) Martin both of Woodburn, and Verna (Phil) Kurtz of Harlan; brother, Erwin Rekeweg; grandchildren, Matt (Melissa) Rekeweg, Mark (Amy) Rekeweg, Anna (Kevin) Ariens, Pam (Scott) Huth, John (Sarah) Martin, David (Melissa) Martin, Chris (Julie) Kurtz, Kirstin (Tom) Pinit; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Wilfred Rekeweg.
Funeral service is 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church, 7616 Bull Rapids Road, Woodburn, with Rev. Jim Teasdale officiating. Calling one hour prior to the service; and 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 State Rd. 930 East, New Haven. Burial in the church cemetery. Preferred memorials to Zion Lutheran Church, Worship for Shut-Ins or Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
